Upcycling at Its Finest

Upcycling is a great way to creatively reuse old objects to create something truly unique and interesting. Although it’s a little more work than buying brand new, it broadens the horizons when it comes to salvaged furniture, flea market finds, and inherited pieces. Upcycling is also a great way to dress up cheaper, more generic items into something that looks luxurious and expensive.

Whether it’s a vintage dresser or a cheap chest of drawers, you can make a huge difference with wallpaper. Adding some beautiful printed wallpaper to otherwise generic pieces can really make them stand out.

It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do for an object. Adding a splash of color can cover up any marks or scratches on old furniture, or it can simply brighten up an otherwise boring piece into something a little more special.

Custom built furniture made by upcycling wooden pallets and crates is on trend right now, and very much fits into the rustic, boho aesthetic. Cut, stack, and shape pallets into beautiful bed frames, sofas, or coffee tables for unique pieces that won’t break the bank.

So many flea markets are filled with vintage trunks and suitcases that aren’t so practical for our travel needs today, but they can make for really interesting decor or more functional furniture items. Converting vintage leather trunks can make for beautiful coffee tables, vanity tables, or even ottomans.

Bring the outdoors in with some repurposed foliage from your yard or local park (with permission, of course). Large branches can make excellent centerpieces for your dining space, or as supports to hang your plants or lighting from.

If you want to add a quirky touch to your garden, you can repurpose everyday items into interesting containers for your plants. Items like old coffee cans, cake platters, or kitchen pots and pans can be upcycled with paint or other finishings to give your plants a unique home.
