Marble Inspiration For The Bathroom

Marble has been tiling our bathrooms for thousands years, and who doesn’t want to live like a Roman or Egyptian emperor? Today modern technology has created more durable marble that’s less prone to discoloration and water damage, resulting in a fresh new trend for the home. Check out these very cool (and very doable) uses of marble in any style of home.

Dark grey marble creates a contemporary feel and contrasts well with clean, white porcelain sinks and toilets. Gold fixtures and hardware (or brass, nickel, etc.) all add an element of emphasis, and the look ends up being bold and stylish.

Monochrome at its finest, contemporary uses of marble lean away from the typical white and grey to more dramatic designs and veining. Add floor-to-ceiling windows and extra large mirrors to open up the space and bring in natural light. Heavy marble isn’t made for small spaces, so if your bathroom is anything less than palatial, you’ll want to offset some of that weight using natural light.

Ah the spa shower. It may have been the brainchild of luxurious Las Vegas hotels but today adding a tub to the shower adds a steam effect and who doesn’t love to save space? Marble doesn’t have to be your only material used to make an impact with your space - the contrast between interest tiles and ceramics is quite dramatic on its own.

Does all that stone seem cold to you? For a bathroom with warm and earthy tones, marble is often most available in its natural state of gold-red-grey veining. Previous decades have seen this bleached or altered for more tame tastes, but we like to see materials in all their natural splendor. Use it for the bathtub, the sink, and sparingly along the walls to create a balanced and elegant space.

Nothing’s wrong with a little subtlety. With a clean and modern approach, white marble with light veining, white oak flooring (or wood-look tile) and white ceramics offer a clean, timeless space. The contrast of hard stone with the softness of a wooden floor creates a natural bathroom you will want to relax in.
